An assistant adds more value when its role is clearly defined. Before connecting it to company information, decide what it can access, what it can do and when a person needs to step in.
Choose a task you can evaluate
Start with a specific need: checking accounts receivable information, collecting incident details or helping someone find a support answer. Define who will use the assistant and what a useful response would look like for that person.
Avoid measuring the result only by how natural a conversation sounds. Prepare representative questions and verify that the assistant uses relevant information, acknowledges its limits and helps the process move forward.
Permissions are part of the design
Distinguish between reading data and taking action. Document the information each user group needs and the functions that will be enabled. Permissions should match the task and the specific environment.
With HITECH Odoo MCP, the scope depends on the functions and information the organization enables. The product presentation highlights Claude and Odoo.sh; other assistants or environments require a compatibility review.
Preserve operational context
The assistant needs to work with concepts the team understands: case statuses, identifiers, periods or owners. Agreeing on these terms helps prevent the conversation from obscuring differences between the person’s question and the available data.
In support, for example, it is useful to retain case history and allow a technician to pick up the conversation. AI assistance and human support should be part of the same workflow, with clear escalation criteria.
Test incomplete questions and errors too
Include ambiguous queries, missing data and requests outside the agreed scope. Define when the assistant should ask for more information, stop an action or transfer the case. Evaluate results with the people responsible for the process.
If a function changes information, agree on the reviews and confirmations it needs. Testing should verify both the expected result and the response to a request that cannot be completed.
Move in stages and review what you learn
A focused initial scope lets you observe real usage and adjust the rules. Keep a way to report incorrect answers and review which queries need more context or better source data.
At HITECH LAB, we define the starting point around the process, systems and people involved. Conversation is the interface; the project still needs integration, acceptance criteria and operational support.
